Discovering Alabama is an educational resource that has been informing citizens, helping schools and promoting stewardship for generations of Alabamians. This documentary series represents all that Alabama values and strives to preserve for our future.
The Discovering Alabama educational concept, used throughout the series, enriches all disciplines for learning experiences. The Discovering Alabama DVD series with teacher guides has been correlated to the Alabama Courses of Study in all disciplines and endorsed by the Alabama Department of Education. It is used in all schools across the state, not only in grades K-12, but with college classes, pre-service and practicing teachers, and with any person in any educational arena who values the rich natural heritage of Alabama. The image below illustrates the enormous educational outreach offered through the Discovering Alabama experience. It makes the educational experience locally relevant. It gives students a reason for reading, understanding, and researching our past. It motivates students to search for solutions to solving and even preventing problems that may occur socially, economically and environmentally. It empowers them to conserve, value, and appreciate the natural diversity of our state.
